Tempest Rudder head

Oday Tempest Boston
The rudder head (cap that attaches the shaft to the tiller) on my tempest was stripped out by the previous owner. I can't find anything that has a key on the forward side (all the ones I have found are aft), 1" diameter shaft.

I was told the pearson Ensign had a similar head?

Any help is much appreciated as the boat is otherwise in great shape, even better if someone has an old tempest they are parting out.

When you refer the the "key" are you talking about the threaded hole in the rudder head or is there actually a key and keyway slot in the shaft. It looks as though there was a bolt or large set screw in the rudder head. If that hole was stripped and the threads are damaged you can install a helicoil thread repair insert to make a repair that will be stronger than the original. Most machine shops can do this repair pretty quickly and inexpensively.
