It's the last of the gauges for the motor that needs attention. Its not working. I'm connected through the harness on the sending unit and the gauge is powered. Whats the simple testing method?
The temp gauge uses the engine body as a ground. Make sure that no sealant or lube is used to install the sensor. Metal on metal. You can test to see if you have continuity by touching the engine block and the edge of the sensor. If you have continuity then turn on the engine and warm it up.
The sensor comes in various ohm ratings needs to be matched to the ohm rating of the gauge.
The sending unit converts temperature into an electrical signal. As temp increases resistance in the circuit changes. One way to check is to use an infrared temperature gauge to check the temperature on the thermostat housing and comparing it to the reading on the temperature gauge. Allowing for a little inaccuracy in the system and in the infrared reading you should probably be within 5 degrees of each other. Those infrared temperature gauges are invaluable and typically cost less than 20 bucks on ebay or harbor freight, etc. https://itstillruns.com/test-water-temperature-gauge-boat-7949115.html
