Tach quits when battery full

When the battery bank is totally charged up full, my tach gets a bit wonky and then quits. I believe it is related to having solar panels providing 14.8v and tripping something in the alternator system. Is there a doodad I can install to keep the tach working??

Some alternators turn off when fully charged. Your tach is probably driven off the AC side of the alternator. Some voltage regulators can be programmed to always feed the field a small amount of juice to keep the tach alive.

Other option are to install Hall effect sensor and 6-8 magnets on your flywheel. this is on my to do list in order to get a cleaner signal (mine often reads double)

You should have pins 7 and 8 on your balmar occupied. 7 goes to the alternator AC connection and 8 goes to your Tach. You may have left the tach going to the alternator AC, and not connected 7&8. If you rewire to have the balmar provide the tach signal it should stay on even if the batteries are fully charged

Hope that was understandable
