Looking to buy Catalina 315, does anyone know the shaft size I would like to put on PSS.
Thank you for your input, in advance.

Sorry you didn't get any answers sooner, but since the very nice C315 is a new boat, there may not be many other owners here.

IIRC, the old C30s had a 1" shaft. No reason to think yours would be smaller. Ours is 1" also.

Have you considered contacting Catalina?

Ed, that sounds weird. They haven't made that many of them, and I surely doubt they changed the shaft diameter in mid-run of production. It may require simply calling back and asking: "What is the shaft diameter of a C315?" Complicating it with hull numbers confuses even me. :yikes::):):)

Hi Ed - My last boat was a 2006 Catalina 309; the 315 is the same hull with some minor changes to the deck, and has the very same engine and running gear (Yanmar 3YM20). The 309 has a 1" shaft. My current boat, a C355, has a 3YM30 but also with a 1" shaft. I'd bet the 315 is 1" as well, simply to standardize parts across as many models as possible.

Thank you John, I kind of figured that. Since I had a 1997 Catalina 320 it also had a 1" shaft.

A commonly used dripless prop shaft seal that replaces the traditional stuffing box...

Ed. I have a 2006 C309 like John had and it came with the PSS so you might want to double check the C315 to make sure it does not have one already. Also feel free to join the C309 forum as we share so many parts it might come in handy if you get the boat.

Hi John and Ed,

I believe that you are correct on the 1" shaft. Catalina says that all boats under 42' have 1" shafts.

John, a further question for you, I have just bought a 355 at Annapolis and am looking to move a Variprofile VP-64 over to it from my Hunter 33 that had same engine and shaft. I may need to tweak the pitch but will do that after shake-down. Do you know if anyone has put a Variprofile on the 355 yet? Any other related insights appreciated.

Thanks,
Neil

Catalina 270 255 Wabamun. Welcome to the marina
Factory shaft may not be stainless, and theres a good case to be made for a split coupler.
