This spring I noticed that the Selden Rodkicker would no longer support the weight of my boom. The gas spring contained in the Rodkicker had failed. I contacted Selden and determined the part number, gas spring specifications and price for a replacement. Selden quoted $180 and since I'm in Canada, there would be broker fees, and duties in addition to the taxes and shipping fees. These were estimated to almost double the price to almost $300.

I got the idea from this forum that these gas springs could be economically sourced from other non-marine suppliers. So I made some measurements from my old non-functioning gas spring, and contacted some Canadian suppliers for a quote. Well I now have my replacement gas spring and the total price with delivery and taxes was $56.00.

Installation took all of 10 minutes and the new gas spring functions perfectly.
