Roller Furling Problem on Capri 14.2

I recently bought at Mod 2 1994 Capri 14.2 with what I believe is the standard Harken 434 roller furling for the jib. Unfortunately, I have a little problem with the rigging at the base of the forestay.

There is that little cable (green arrow in picture) that goes through the smaller hole (red arrow) on the the piece of metal at the base of the forestay. It connects to the sail so that when the drum turns, the sail sail actually furls.

How far does little cable goes up the sail. Does it just go throw the grommet in the tack of the sail or does it connect up higher into the sail?

Is this a repair I can do myself or should I get a sail shop to handle it?

Thanks in advance,
Dave ...

The sail and the cable in the luff connect at the lower furling drum, and the swivel at the top also.
