Has anyone installed a 44lb rocna anchor on 42-45 ft. Hunter? I am looking to replace my Delta and want to know if the Rocna will interfere with the bottom of the Furlex roller furling as it is deployed or retrieved

I couldn't use the original Rocna because the roll bar interfered with the sprit on my Gulfstar, the Vulcan fit nicely though and performs great!

The pic is from their site......

Hunter 410, we have a 25 kg Rocna (55.1 pounds). It works just fine with the original bow roller and windlass. I don't know if could go up a size without looking at changing the bow roller, however larger isn't necessary. We've anchored in short scope/deep water/crowded anchorage at 3:1 (high tide) and didn't budge in 20-25 kt winds. Normally we aim for 5-7:1 which glues us to the bottom. Setting the Rocna is much easier than our old genuine Bruce, although the Bruce always held well once it was set.

The Rocna website provides good information on sizing and I believe they even have templates you can use to make up and see if it fits. Our local marine store offered us 100% no hassle return policy if there were any fit issues.

We did the same with a 55lb Vulcan - great performance and stows well on anchor platform.

I am not a Hunter boat owner, but I did just research anchors and bought the Mantus.
Here is a youtube video of some torture testing that helped me in my review and selection.

I put the 55 lb Mantus on my Passage 420. Great buy and is a dead split with the Rocna, minus the extra cost.

You will be undersized with a 45#. According to Mantus website a 45# for my H41 20,000# boat would require a 55# anchor for winds>20 knots, and your boat is bigger.

@dakno You are possibly right. It depends which boat he chooses. The range was 43-45 ft Hunter. The 45 footers are about 26K lbs. That would put him about the max range for a daysailor in less than 30 knts.

Choosing a lighter boat in the 18K lbs range the anchor would work. If he is going to look to storm anchor conditions and the biggest boat in his range, then definitely not.

The idea that a specific brand was identified and a wide range of boat specifics with no sailing weather parameters makes this purely an academic question with not right or wrong answer.

An anchor is only too large if it materially affects the trim of the yacht...

If you empty all the stuff out of the focsle of yoru boat, you'll see your boat riding bow high. Now you just need to buy enough anchor and chain to bring the boat back into trim on her lines.

Thanks for that info Rick. I have a 420 too, and have wondered if the Mantus would fit. After reading all the reviews and watching every test video I could find- the Mantus is what I'm going with. Any chance you have a picture of it sitting in the bow mount?

While not a 420, I installed my Mantus 35 anchor on the Mantus bow roller this year. This is what it looks like on my CAL 35 C.

Very Observant Terry. Except those are Oregon Tabs.. Oregon runs 2 years and ends in December.
You Washington boys make me pay for both.
I feel honored as I get to sail in beautiful waters.
