Replacing mixing elbo

A recent mixing elbo ( part that comes off the exhaust before entering the muffler) had to be replaced after it failed on my m25 engine.(36 Catalina 1986). The engine cover has to be removed, then the teak plywood that the engine cover mounts to, in order to access the part. The replacement part was upgraded to stainless (in the hope of NEVER having to replace it again) The process is not bad, just time consuming. The one thing I changed while I had it off, was to cut an access door in the plywood.I used hinges and a barrel bolt to secure it to the plywood. This will enable me to access the 1 7/8 inch hose that goes between the elbo and the muffler---should it fail while away from my slip. The task will still be difficult but not as difficult without the door..
