I know this has been addressed, but my search can't find what I am looking for. I am doing a little rebed work and was wondering what folks are using. I vaguely recall Gene N. mentioning a product that was better than just plain old silicone.

Nothing is WORSE than plain old silicone. 
Butyl tape is widely regarded as the best thing for use above the waterline. Behind that, Sikaflex 291 is outstanding; Boatlife Caulk, 3M 4200 (NOT 5200) and others will do the trick if needed.
