The sealant that is in the joint between the top of the house and the fiberglass cover that covers the pocket that the sliding companion hatch slides into is starting to degrade and come loose.
I am looking for the right type of sealant to re caulk the joint , I don't want to have to completely remove the old sealant ,just what is weathered and loose.
I would think probably to go back with the same sealant would be best for compatibility and adhesion of similar compounds .
Does anyone know what was used originally by Catalina in the 2002 vintage ?

The original sealant was likely polysulfide.

My first choice for rebedding anything is butyl tape. If I can't use that then I will go with a polysulfide. Never a silicone except for marine grade silicone in very limited circumstances.

Good luck and fair winds,
