We are purchasing a 2000 Hunter 460 but have concerns with the air conditioning onboard. We were unable to be on the boat when it was tested. There are two units on board and they appear to be unable to run at the same time. The broker said that it isn't a matter of the circuits tripping but the aft unit just turns off. May be concern with AMPs required. The models are the VTD 16K-410A 115V/16/1.
Could it be thermostat issues and if so are they expensive &/or complicated to repair?
We were supposed to close yesterday but want this resolved.

Try running the aft unit by itself. If it works ok, then it is a power issue. If the boat has 2, 30 amp shore power cords make sure they are both connected. When the aft unit turns off, if it is not tripping a breaker there should be a trouble code on the thermostat indicating why it turned off. It might be insufficient water flow, blocked air vents, low freon, etc.

Escrow $10K, have the owner provide a service call and settle on the boat. This can then be addressed quickly and to your satisfaction

Our 1991 boat came equipped with two MarineAir units; 16Kbtu main cabin and 9Kbtu aft cabin. Both will run at the same time from one "A" side 30amp shore power cord. They consume about 23-24 amps while operating, so little margin to operate anything else erstwhile the need for the second "B" side shore power cord.

It may be a simple problem; best to have a marine AC guy take a look see. With our reverse cycle units low refrigerant just means that it will run but delivers neither warm or cold air. A puzzle why it shuts off unless there is some internal fuse/breaker.
