I am not sure how you use a PHRF number with a centerboarder. Is that only against other centerboard boats? Or can you race against displacement boats with that number? My Highlander is much like an H216. But it is a planing hull and can do ten knots downwind with a spinnaker. Does that sound like a PHRF of 230+? That's about the same number as my old Catalina 22. The Highlander would be on the trailer and me at the bar before the C-22 crossed the line.
I'm not sure you would call a 216 a centerboarder. It has a 500 lb swing keel. It should be faster than a C 22. The C 22 has a Portsmouth rating of 94.7 to 97.1 the 216 has a rating of 90.6 to 91. I think the PHRF rating for the 216 would be around 213. I suspect the 216 was assigned an initial rating in the organizations that Ed mentioned because PHRF hasent assigned a rating for the 216 yet. I would love to have a rating in the 230s or 240s I think the 216 is much faster than that.
The Hunter 216 phrf is actually 216, which at least it should be an easy number to remember. FYI, take your D-PN - 55 x 6 = phrf. You can also do D-PN x 6 - 330 = PHRF. D-PN is 91 for the 216.
