The anniversary of D-Day is Thursday -
"Hours before the invasion was to take place, Stagg predicted a short break in the weather pattern was coming, but not until the next day. He implored Eisenhower to delay the invasion by 24 hours. Eisenhower was persuaded and moved the attack to June 6. Stagg's forecast would prove invaluable to the success of the invasion."

It was the stormy weather the gave the "shield" and Stagg found the gap.
Eisenhower listened!
If you get a chance visit the National WWII Museum in New Orleans.
It is an amazing place.
Why in New Orleans?
The Higgins Boat D-Day landing craft was built near NOLA.
The original name for the museum was D-Day Museum.
