I need a new mattress for the master cabin. The mattress is rectangular and a bit smaller than queen. Lots of very expensive custom options. What else?

Buy foam and cut to fit then sew custom cover. Also expensive. Or buy standard queen matress look for a mostly foam matress and modify to your needs. It requires purchase special tools hog ring plyers, apulstry needles . but if you keep sheets on it it will look ok

I dont think I want a foam only mattress, but not sure about that. I have a special mattress 'bag' that zips up.

You didn't elaborate on your reasons for not wanting foam, but when I made new cushions for our boat I went to a local foam supplier and had them cut pieces of 3" firm foam with 2" of memory foam on top. It is more comfortable than our bed at home.

Also use foam mattress. 3 inch firm and 3 inch memory foam. Great bed. Worked with auto upholstery shop. Brought my own materials. Did salon and mattress for $450. Took them 2 weeks.

You can improve the feel of foam cushions with a dacron wrap. Suddenly it feels like furniture. I would think the same would apply to a mattress. We just use a memory foam mattress topper over the foam pad that came in the boat. It definitely works for us, but we keep it covered with a mattress pad under the sheets.

I bought a 4 inch foam queen at Walmart. It was about $100. I laid it on top of the old one. Works great.
