Hi Folks
As "threatened" in another post, I have purchased my new tow vehicle. Looking for a Toyota Tundra at the end of the 2018 model year was a challenge. By shear luck, I stumbled onto a 2016 Tundra 5.7 at a nearby dealer. Truck has built in tow package (plug and play) and 20,000 miles. Price...well, that was good too!:waycool:

May be interesting to see pics of what others are using?

Affectionately known as “Roxy” 6cyl 2016 Silverado that gets 21mpg around town with a tow rating that doubles anything I own

Congratulations on the purchase. Nice truck! At 4,000 miles per year, you should be good for at least 50 years.
However, when you get new truck fever, there's only one cure!

@Gene Neill Big Judy !!! Love it... "Rosie" was the '89 Chev that begat "Roxy" -- posing for their handoff picture before she retired :)

"Roxy", that's a great truck name.

This is Judy! "Big Judy", technically, because the original "Judy" was my Tacoma. :)

I've never been good at naming things although we do call the airplane "Mary Kate" (from the movie "Quiet Man"). Sharlene has been calling the new truck "Big Red"...not sure I like it but something tells me I had better just go with it! :snooty:

we used to have a 1 ton suburban of 70's vintage. We called it the brown turd. Got between 5 and 7 MPG towing our C22 from STL to the Keys 4 times a year. We finally got smart and stored the boat in the Keys. Every trip was an adventure. I can still point out all of the places throughout Georgia where we broke down But boy could it tow. We could do 75 up the mountains outside Chatanooga without breaking a sweat.

Hi Sailm8
Great post of your adventures. Those "breakdowns" will become memories later in life! Keep on keepin on!

Speaking of mileage, Ken. The 15-16 mpg I mentioned previously is city/highway, loaded/unloaded, average average. On the interstate, on a calm day, with 300lbs of cargo and the cruise control set at 75, I get 18.1 mpg. I just clocked it today.

Towing the C22 at 65 mph, I get about 11 mpg.

Hi Gene
Thanks for the words of encouragement! This whole MPG makes me think of when I bought my first motorhome in the early 80's. It was a little thing...about 19 feet on a Dodge chassis. I inquired from a co-worker (who owned a motorhome) as to the gas mileage. I was quickly handed a lecture as to the cost of doing something that I enjoyed. My friend and co-worker suggested that if MPG was an issue, maybe I should stick with a tent. I suppose using that same philosophy would move me to a.............Sunfish???:yikes:

Just having a little Saturday night fun!!!

This is mine. 2003 Chevy 2500HD Duramax. Gets the job done. Picked that Catalina up in NJ Saturday. Bought it sitting in the water sight unseen as a parts boat but it’s actually in decent shape. Guess I’ll see where it goes from here.

That's very nice looking. I don't own a truck. Living in the city and only needing one twice a year to bring BlueJ back and forth from storage to the club, I borrow or rent one. The one I would need would be a monster like yours that that's not my lifestyle. But every year about a week before I need one, I look at trucks as they go by and often say 'wow, NICE truck!'

As a quick follow up on some of the MPG thoughts, I have been running a little test. It appears that I am getting a little over 17 MPG at 70-75 MPH (unloaded). Not bad for 381 H.P. ! There aren't too many ways to get a lot of horsepower at a "little" cost...as my airplanes friend put it...power ain't free!
We will be towing the boat up to the lake this weekend (120 miles round trip), report to follow!
