I am interested in a 1999 macgregor 26x in New Jersey ,it has a 70Hp suzuki. is that legal in Canada and or U.S.

I have noticed that on most aluminum ,wood or fiberglass transoms there is a plate that displays boat load and max hp.
and if you overpower a boat in Quebec, You can be ticketed

Sounds like you already know the answer. You need to check with the governing agency for the present, proper, answer. PROBABLY if you exceed the plate hp, if you tear the boat up or for some reason want to sue somebody because the boat could not handle the weight of a larger motor, you may get laughed out of court.
