So my original cockpit table was designed with brackets to slide onto the pedestal guard. It was never easy to deploy, and it was always too high since it could not be slid down below the instrument pods. When I upgraded and added an additional navpod, it would not work at all.

So, the goal was to remount the table using different hinges and mounts to get the right height and better functionality.
I got some Stainless folding table hinges off Amazon
    2018-01-06 20.28.05.jpg
And attached some one inch tube mounts
    2018-01-06 20.44.36.jpg
Then I test fit to find the best height for the table.

The Hinges and mounts looked like this installed
    2018-01-06 22.18.31.jpg 2018-01-06 21.24.00.jpg
So now we have a functional table at the right height that stows away nicely

I will probably replace the table top at some point since it looks like someone previously used it as a bait cutting station, and it has some ugly knife cut grooves in the top.

Thanks for posting! I've been thinking through adding a cockpit table and just never thought about these stainless folding table hinges.

    Great post, pateco.
I think you need to personalize that tabletop with some fancy artwork: inlay, carving, pyrography:thumbup:.
My wife and I made a mosaic countertop for our bathroom and used epox-it bartop resin to level it and protect it. The poly-resin is about 3/8" thick. It came out great.

This opens up all kinds of possibilities for artistic expression. :yeah:

I did non artistic Mosaic Glass tiles when I redid the head last year.

Pyrography might be cool for the cockpit table, but I was thinking of trying it on some new companionway boards first.

That's awesome. I'm working on a Chinese Dragon design for hatch border.

Perfect for my soon to sail again 285. Best (and simplest) table design i've seen. Thanks for posting.
Where did you get the hinges and the clamps?

I'm going to make one of these. My boat came with a starboard table with broken hinges so I've been storing it in our dockbox.

I'm going to have to rethink how mine will mount on the H285. I only have the binnacle post and NOT the 1" Stainless tubing. I got the clamps and hinges on Amazon. I'll just have to figure out HOW I'm going to mount the clamps ON the binnacle.

    Pateco,

I want to thank you for the idea of the brackets and clamps for the table for our Hunter 28.5! I made one out of teakwood with birch straps around the sides. I also drilled four holes for drink holders and a few more teak straps underneath. I scored the teak with a hole saw then cut them out with a jigsaw and a metal blade (the teak is VERY hard wood) sanded smooth and routed the edges. It turned out very well and I really like the solid feel of the brackets as it is raised into position. I made it somewhat narrow, about 11” so that it wouldn’t get in the way when folded down.

    Nice addition to the cockpit.

    Thanks again!

How beautiful. Wood is a miracle of beauty in both form and function. Fantastic!

Beautiful, how did you get the birch to wrap around the table?

The edging is birch, as mentioned in the entry above. I have some other pieces on the boat that have a similar wood contrast. There are 3 strips that were glued as we pulled them around the teakwood top with glue spread in between. We also tacked the pieces into place as we pulled the birch strips around.

I had help from one of my brothers to build the table top. I actually have 3 brothers that are all fantastic wood craftsmen. I wasn’t born with that gene, I got the mechanical gene! I can work on the engine and feel quite comfortable, but I often need help with the woodworking. Family is great!
