intermittent engine starting

On start up starting is not always on every try. Must pull the start button at certain times several time before the engine will start.Suspect starter?l

you forgot to mention whether it was gas or deisel. if the later then maybe the glo plugs need tending to. if the former , oif it sounds like a drag on the battery then the starter might be suspect. the first thing to consider is the state of the batteries.

Battery Cables Suspect

Prior to spending any money check your ground and positive cables. I replaced my starter for Universal 25 diesel ($350), altenator ($300), wiring harness ($75) and still had an intermittent problem. I changed my ground cable ($25) and fixed the problem. I did not realize that a ground cable could cause the problem.......... I mean after all it's only a ground. Live and learn. Greg

Solenoid fuse and holder

Check the fuse and holder at the starter solenoid. I replaced with a Marinco watertight holder and problem gone.
