I have to replace some of the interior planking on the wall of my Hunter 430 (2 foot hole in hull thanks to Irma). It's a light wood, about 3 inch strips. It looks like oak, but I'm not sure.
Our boat has a similar type wood on the port side hull bulkhead. It looks more like ash to me, which could be what Hunter used in place of oak. I've worked with ash some over the years in my shop making furniture for the family; basically an oak look alike.
I think ash is a common marine wood. White oak is ok. Don't use red oak if it's going to get wet often or stay wet. Otherwise, most woods will work as interior wood.
I am curious about what spots are 3" strips. The only 3" strips I see are the trim between my Teak panels.
