I've used 3/16" amsteel dyneema high strength single braid line for pennants- no problems, and great UV resistance. I'm gonna use it for lifelines too when that time comes.
No, just use a piece of low stretch, you just have to adjust length/tension the first time for a furler. I do it kind of like a truckers hitch so you can tension it after the sail is up also.
a down haul might be a nice touch. A single block at the tack and a double at the chainplate. Then you could adjust the tension in your luff very quickly. I guess the halyard serves the same purpose .... just a thought.
