Hot Plate Ring Stain

I bought a 1994 Hunter Legend 35.5 and there is a hot plate stain(ring) on the counter....first off, what kind of material am I dealing with and secondly, is there a process to remove that stain...thanks for any help....craig

If the counter surface is corian you should be able to sand it out with sand paper then polish it with a scotch brite pad. You should contact Hunter and see if it is corian or not. Most likely it is, lots of builders used this in boats.
