Hi,
I’m reinstalling a rebuilt Spinlock XA Clutch and one of the screws could not go in further beyond 1/4” into the thread. Please see photo attached.
I suspect I must cross threaded it. There is no access panel in the head liner to work on.

Any ideas /suggestions how to proceed?
Thanks,
Chew

Back it out and re-tap the thread with one of these...

That will clean off any barbs you may have in your original threads. If that does not work then tap all new threads one size up and use the next sized bolt.

There is an aluminum plate embedded in the deck. The threads are in the plate, probably 3/16" thick plate.. when ya go back up, be sure to use a good anti-seize on the bolts.

Eli14312,
I rebuilt the clutch myself using new handles and side cheeks keeping the old cams, springs etc. I found cracks on one of the side cheeks after I replaced my broken handle. So be careful when you remove your broken handle. I got the parts from apsltd.com.

Good luck.

Where ever you see a raided area designed for hardware with no access below, count on aluminum plates encapsulated in the fiberglass which was standard by Hunter. Suggest drilling a smaller drill bit first to make sure
