When I lay my mast down I put he base forward and leave the shrouds attached. Works out nice for stepping, just walk it back a bit and slip it in he pulpit.
I am assuming that the factory was setup for the mast base to be rearward so that the boom can be put on that second hook for the rear mast step.
The boom does not fit inside my Expedition so I am trying to figure out where the best place is to tie it down. Plus what knots would I use?
Maybe some pictures of your 170 ready to go?
FWIW, Sunday morning (6/23) looks good for us to go. Little cool but a 5 to 8 knot wind coming from the NW so it will be coming from land keeping the waters flat.
