Furler question maybe Crazy Dave question

We have a 1989 Hunter 30 with the furler under the deck (anchor locker.) The headsail is attached to the drum by a cable swedged onto the sail. Is this the factory setup? My plan is to raise the foot of the jib to clear the bow pulpit (the lower part of the sail can't be of much help anyway because the pulpit forces really poor sail shape.) So do I need to wrap a line around the foil up to the sail to provide torsional force?

Never thought about that but I think the down hall will be fine flying no matter how long it is. I use denima high strength tails on sails tied to a figure 8 knot

The furling drum below the deck in the anchor well was not my cup of tea either. I use to raise the drum using long tangs to clear the deck or some have raised the sail with a line. Either way, getting the sail above deck was important to me with the 23 wing keel.
