Forward Scanning Sonar

Catalina C310 SF Bay/Delta
Friend is taking his boat from Washington D.C area down to Florida and recently installed
forward scanning sonar. Anyone have that and suggestions? West Marine has one suppose
to scan 8 X depth ahead or in 10 feet scan 80 feet ahead??

I've got an Interphase scanner on my new-to-me boat. Way cool. Lots of information that needs a bit of famliarity to interpret, but a poor craftsman will blame his tools.
Take it easy on the marine life and keep the usage limited to the shallows.

It is a tool. Complaints I have heard are about the size of the transducer which sticks out the front of the boat and slows the boat.

Ya, it is a bulbous protrusion. Seems mostly because of the need to orient the transducer to level.
