Forward/neutral/reverse

Hi, I own a Hunter 376 1997 sailboat. I will like your recommendation. When I am under sail power and my engine is off, I have the transmission on reverse gear. Please provide your comments. Thanks.

Depends on transmission, Yanmar specifies neutral for kanzaki transmissions, Most Hurth transmissions spec neutral or reverse.

The standard response used to be reverse. But Yanmar issued an advisory several years ago and Calif Ted nailed it... most likely neutral for your boat. The archives have plenty on this. Enjoy!

Thanks I will check on transmission model and or specs. My motor is a Yanmar. If the transmission is set on reverse to start up the engine the only way is to start it on reverse. It will rotate on reverse will the boat is doing 6 knots.
