Engine/sail drive issue

Having a weird issue with my engine. At times, I will put the engine in gear and I will get very limited forward thrust. The engine runs at normal RPMs and sounds fine but I only get about 1kt of speed at 2000 Rpms. Sometimes when forward is impaired, reverse works fine. It’s pretty random. I have left the mooring and everything is fine and the issue materializes on the way in. I thought it might be something obstructing the folding prop but I swam underneath and everything seems normal. I don’t think it is a simple transmission issue because it shifts into gear but just seems that the prop doesn’t spin at the rate that the engine RPMs would indicate. Has anyone experienced this issue or has any thoughts?

symptoms of a slipping cone clutch, possibly not fully engaged. Fix could be as simple as a linkage adjustment.

Drain a bit of your tranny fluid & see if it has a funny shimmer to it. It may also be dark/cloudy.

Engine? Transmission?
When was the last time you checked or changed the transmission fluid?
