Does anyone know how to replace the continuous line for the in-mast furling?

Our furling line for the in mast has finally worn out. We hired someone to replace it but his splice has lost it's core around the splice, leaving only the outer braid. Has anyone had this problem and how was it resolved. Can we just simply use the outer braid in that section even though it is compromised? We have 3 months left in the sailing season and would like to do some cruising soon but aren't comfortable with the line as it is. Thanks, Peg

I would not trust it! It needs to respliced by someone who can do it properly.

My previous boat, a hunter 33.5 had a continuous furling line for the jib furler. Check out you tube for instructions on how to make a double braid continuous splice for furler. It is not a difficult splice. Measure the old line + the lengths that are tucked into the core to determine the length that you will need to purchase.
