Well, we all know to periodically check and maintain our rigging (often), but how about your neighbor's boat? Got a call from the club yesterday, "your neighbors boat (a Flying Scot) dismasted in his slip and landed on your boat, may want to come down"!
Upon inspection, his stbd shroud was shreaded and failed, sending his mast across our finger pier and onto our foredeck. Somehow it missed our shrouds and forestay and landed on the lifelines, The finger pier caught the brunt of the weight. Guess we dodged a bullet, and glad I wasn't standing on our bow hanking on the jib!
Lesson learned, beware of your neighbors boat condition!! (not just your own!)
