Prior to 1995 many of the Catalina Sailboats 27' to 42' had a very same Companionway Hatch. Very common is the horrible screech you get when you slide the hatch open. Originally Catalina put a Teflon type tape in the channel but after a few years the tape loses its adhesive and falls apart. The factory solution is disassemble the entire hatch and replace the tape, a nasty big job.

Many years back Graham Mackay posted a solution to a screeching companionway hatch sliding against the cabin top on the Catalina 36 forum. I followed his instructions to the letter and it solved my problem. You need to source some 1/16" thick HDPE plastic and cut into strips 1" wide x 72" long. You slide them in the channel a Viola no more screech. It works on most Catalina boats made prior to 1995. Feel free to contact me to ask questions how this simple process works.
