Changing out transmission

Hello, I am a new boat owner and sailor. Last week I had a catastrophic failure of my transmission. I own a 1977 Hunter 30 with a Perkins 30 hp engine mated with a Hurth 50 transmission. I'm looking to replace the transmission with either a ZF or Bataan transmission. My concerns are that they are both longer and adjustments will be needed. I need 2 inches and looking to move the engine forward. Has anyone done anything similar?

Well, your boat came with a much different and less powerful engine from the factory so...
Somebody's already altered the mounting location when they installed the Perkins in your boat.
