The removable helm seat in several models is clever, inasmuch as there is great access to the large swim ladder. However, it is quite heavy, hard to stow, and hard to secure in place; such that we leave it home.... Surely someone has fabricated something much lighter and smarter..?????

Take a look at these seats. I use one in my Catalina 400 and it's really comfortable. I move it easily when I want to access the swim step. Use longer legs with the bench removed.

Like Scotty I had a long legged helmseat made and keep the fiberglass one in the basement.
