Catalina 250 Water Ballast

I've got a friend interested in a 250 water ballast model. I'm not a fan of water ballast sailboats, but there are a lot of Hunters, Mac's, and Catalina's out there with water ballast. Would like to hear from an owner, or someone that's sailed the Catalina 250 water ballast model. Maybe I'm just stuck in the "old school" .
