I launched my recently purchased Catalina 25 last weekend , it was the end of a long day by the time I got the boat floating . I've since noticed a small "S" bend at the top of the flexible extrusion on my CDI furler ,since then, from when it was tied to the mast improperly . I'm guessing the furler won't work properly and explains the extra pressure on the forestay when we were setting up. So now I'm going to have to remove extrusion and try to straighten or replace it . I'm thinking of loosen the the rear stay and back off the shrouds , tie the jib halyard off to replace forestay , then remove furler drum and extrusion ? Any thoughts or experience with on this kind of undertaking ?

Yes, that will work. But I would not loosen backstay.

Yes that will work. I've used the same technique on the C25 I previously owned.
