The lift muffler on my 2002 Model year Catalina 310 has failed at the inlet port. This fiberglass muffler is no longer available from Catalina, or apparently from the original vendor. Has anyone replaced replaced their C310 lift muffler, and if you did, what did you use?

I've made some temporary repairs using epoxy, but I don't see this as a long term solution.

Thanks!

Mine was leaking when I bought the boat and the broker took the old one out and sent it Ultra Marine Products in Maryville, TN so they could build one just like it. I kind of wish they'd retuned the old one so I could have patched it and used it as a back up. I don't know what it cost, since he paid for it.

I'm thinking about buying a silicone isolation boot so the engine vibrations won't destroy the new muffler. My engine's low idle is pretty rough.

It's called a "hump hose." CD sells them.

But then, why is the idle rough? I found my old, 3-cylinder, M25 shakes, rattles, and rolls at 700 RPM or so, and is smooth as silk just above that. Might want to adjust the stop?

That's it. The Hump hose.
Same here. It's the M25 engine in the C310 too. Pretty rough at 700-750 RPM but smooth as silk at 1000 RPM. Yes, I need to make some adjustments.

Please note, you might not want to shift into and out of gear at 1000 RPM, 'though the Hirth gear is supposed to be able to take it.

Three cylinder engines are naturally unbalanced. Might want to check your engine mounts, too.

Jparks, I'd guess that inlet port failure is directly related to engine vibration. If the silicone hump hose helps isolate engine vibration as advertised, it's probably a good investment along with the new muffler.

There's a Westerbeke factory notice and a thread somewhere on this forum(I think) about setting the idle at 900-1000 to minimize vibration. In addition to muffler problems the vibration at too low RPMs cause premature failure of the motor mounts.
