So, braided polyester line. Is there any such thing as marine grade here or is all polyester line created equal?

Thanks.

Well, there is no load on a lazy jack. So I would say any line that is capable of retaining its properties being in the environment day in and day out should work. I just installed no-load external halyards for different uses and I chose doublebraid polyester rope. Sail Magazine says... "...1/4in to 3/8in prestretched polyester doublebraid for your lazyjack lines.". They also say do not use nylon. Does it have to be "marine grade"? I don't think so.

Get a line that is less likely to "hold dirt". You don't want to leave a "shadow" on the sail. The strength really isn't the issue.

The braided polyester is also less likely to abrade the sail if you don't ease it.

Harken makes a very simple and efficient kit. It's gotten a bunch pricier -- but if you buy the same blocks, cleat, and line, it's very effective and does the job.
