Is there any way of deriving the build date from the hull number, as one can from a car's VIN? My Hunter 260 has Hull number HUNFC06752E898 and I may need to prove of age (the yacht's, not mine!) for an insurance claim. FYI - I am told that rigging should generally be replaced after 7 years use - is this common practice amongst the Hunter community?

I don't know of anyone who replaced their rigging after 7 years, on any make of boat. Have the rig inspected if you aren't sure. Look for signs of corrosion or weakness in the wire and fittings.

More likely the eigth month of 98, the last three digits of the serial number. My H26 is a 1997 and the last three are 797 or July of 97. It was among the last before they started the H260.

HIN Hull Sequence Number Question
My boat was built in October of 2003, and the hull sequence number is (F0)125. Does the hull sequence number refer to the number of boats manufactured to date for the model year, lay-up year, or what? Looking at previous responses, it doesn't look as if it is the total number of boats by model only. Thanks!

My understanding is that the boats are numbered sequencially. However, I think when they stopped making the H26 they restarted. My 2003 is number 089

Hull sequence number
I believe the reason some people are seeing lower hull I.D. numbers on newer models such as the 03' is the number rolled over after Hunter reached hull #999, in 2002 the hull number started back at 000. Any idea how many H260's were built? We know at least 1000 by 2002! Regards

HOW MANY 260
Apparently the hull numbers for the 26 start at FOOO1 and run to somewhere near F0729 around 1997, then the 260 is introduced and the hull numbers continue until 2002, were they start new (my assumption is that they started a whole new mold, instead of using the one that I guess was modified from the 26) As far as hull shape, the top mold is definitely different. The bottom mold appears to be shaped differently along the aft quarter with the 260 being a more gradual line to the water. I don't know enough about boat building to know if modifying an already existing mold is practical, but I couldn’t think of any other reason why the hull numbers wouldn't be consecutive for the 26, and then start at zero and be consecutive for the 260. Early 260 are consecutive with the 26 hull numbers. Later 260 run to somewhere near F0189 in 2005. So it seems if one has a 260 that is late 2002 or newer it is a made from an entirely different mold than the earlier 260 or 26. Total 260 seems to be around 582.
