We removed all of the old hull bottom paint down to the barrier coat and then added three new barrier coats of 2 part epoxy. We covered the epoxy barrier coat with 100 latex acrylic primer and then one coat of 100 percent acrylic latex house paint to block sunlight so it would not damage the epoxy barrier coats. Our kids and grand kids swim around the dock so we did not want to use paint with heavy metals that can leach into the water.

That is the reason we want to store the boat on a lift, plus not having to scrub the hull. Otherwise, we would have simply tied the boat in our slip.

The restoration of the boat is detailed on our blog: https://sailboatprojectorbust.wordpress.com/

Now that we have the outside painted and the boat on the water, we will begin working on the interior next. New lights, cushions, compass, battery, solar panel battery charger, etc.

I went down to the dock today to take some photos of the additional lift tank we added to raise the boat high enough to get all of the galvanized metal attached to the lift completely out of the water. The cost of the additional lift tank and hardware was $500.00 We fabricated the metal harness from some scrap angle and stainless plates we had lying around in the yard. The added 1600 pound lift tank gave us an additional five inches of lift.

We have had some high winds and the setup appears to be stable. Of course the lift rocks a little in waves or really high wind, but the boat never moves on the lift platform. We plan to add two additional side bunks this spring to help us guide the boat into place.

So far, so good. If we run into any problems. I'll post that information as well.

Update, the boat lift has worked out really well for us. We had some really strong winds this past spring ( one day the winds reached 60 mph at one point ), but everything was fine at the dock.
