Some people think it has to do with the freezing point of water, and some BS about scientific precision, the scale being standardized Kelvin minus 273.15 blah blah blah.

I think it actually has to do with being the point that zero rational people want to go outside.

We moved back to So Cal from the mid Atlantic to return to, well, California weather.
But it's been cold and wet for months. I haven't sailed since October.
I feel like we moved to Seattle.

I am sorry Ted. That limit is not to the qualifying standards of the 2020 EXTREME Winter Sailing Adventure. Maybe with a little cold weather training you might be eligible for the BC Summer Sailing Cruise.
