Anchor chain specs for Oceanis 36cc

I have an Oceanis 36cc with a Leroy Somer windlass (no longer in production).The current chain size is 3/8 which I feel is to large since it jumps out of the gypsy when trying to raise the anchor. I have not been able find information regarding the correct size. I'm thinking about replacing it with 5/16 G4 (G43) spliced with either 9/16 or 5/8 rope. Any ideas or thoughts help would be greatly appreciated. The boat is currently on an inland lake. Thank you.

Take the gypsy off and bring to wm or other place where anchor chain is sold and match it up. Also size may be marked on gypsy.

Thank you NYSail...I could not find the chain size on the gypsy..I will take it to West Marine..Thanks for your help
