adding halyards

I have two extra sheeves in my mast for halyards but no line to use as a messenger to run new line through. What's the best way to do this? I was thinking of just buying 30' or so of household electrical wire and using the ground wire.

Is the mast down? If up, and you can go up, I've always dropped a messenger down with a 6 inch piece of bicycle chain, and fish it out at deck level through the exit.

If the mast is down, hold it up at an angle and shake it with a weight or snake in it with a messenger line added to the weight. the higher the angle is better but be safe doing that.
