3GMF Problems

Hey Allan, the 3GMF does have sleeves, as well as all the MF series motors. The machinist I'm working with said the crank was fine and didn't need to be turned but never mentioned working the cam. It's an hour drive so I'll get photos when I can and ask about grinding down the cam.

I assume the pitting is on the lobes. You can grind the journals of a cam, but you cannot grind the lobes without welding on new material first. To do so also requires the cam grinder to know the specs/shape of the lobes and I would expect that to be quite unlikely for a Yanmar cam. If there shot, your much better off to find one in a scrap yard / ebay.
