Regarding your Battery Setup

This is my battery setup.....

Paul, Did you
1. Just rewire the 1-2-B switch so you have AO to switch to House Bank and so you did not have to run any additional wires to batteries.
2. Get a larger capacity Alternator due to increase in your housebank
3.Use an ACR or duocharger between your housebank and your Reserve Batt.

Thanks, Again Paul. Coming down south anytime soon.

Answer to 1........

No AO switch what ever that is.

I did not rewire the original 1-2-B switch.

The original cable attached to the 1 position on the switch now runs to the new start battery postive.

The original cable attached to the 2 position on the switch runs to the existing house bank battery positive, no change.

The existing house bank is wired positive to positive and negative to negative.

All negative battery cables go to a common negative bar.

I use a one Truecharge 20 to charge both house bank and start battery.

Answer to 2............

No and no comment.

Answer to 3......

No and no comment.

I have a LinkLite battery monitor and the jury is still out on that.

This recent post on alternator replacement when upgrading a house bank is also pertinent: http://forums.catalina.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?t=116767

The preferred arrangement is

continue to use the 1-2-B switch

AO direct to house bank

each bank output to 1-2-B switch

C post of switch to distribution panel and starter solenoid

either use an echo charger to charge the reserve bank or use the B position on the switch - simple

I did some calculations which is always dangerous and came up with a 135 Amp fuse between the AO and the House Banik. Does that sound about right. One of these......http://bluesea.com/productline/overview/13

A surface mount thermal Circuit breaker.
