Hunter 37-Cutter Whitby Ontario (on Lake Ontario)
I have been looking high and low for a Yanmar Manual for my good old original 2QM20H in my Cutter 37. Is there anyone that could find me a source for one or a copy?

The main question is what oil should be in the reverse gear box.

Hi,
I have the 3QM30 with the Kazanaki (sp?) gearbox in my 1983 H37C and it uses Dexron II ATF. I think I have a PDF of an old owners manual for both the 2 & 3 cylinder Yanmars somewhere on one of my computers - I'll try and find it and put it up on the site.

Right now I have Dextron in the gear box. Going to change oils and I want to make sure. I have a 2gm 3gm manual and that is what has confused me. If you have a pdf of the 2QM 3QM manual I would be delighted to have a copy. Thank you in advance. I'm sure others would appreciate that. Just another asset to keep our good old Cutters in good shape.

Try A Seloc Manual

I've got a 2QM20H in my 1980 Cherubini 36 -- and I've got an official Yanmar manual for it. It's on the boat.

I also have a Seloc repair manual, Publication No. 7400 "Yanmar Inboards 1975-98 Repair Manual QM,GM/HM, JH &JH2 Series.

For each section, the Seloc book has diagrams and instructions for each engine type for areas where they differ. For the QM's, I've noted that diagrams are exact copies of the Yanmar manaul.

If I didn't have the Yanmar manual, Seloc would be just fine. Seloc manuals are available lots of places and relatively inexpensive compared to the manufacturer's original. Just do an internet search. Or here is the link to the manual's web page at Amazon ...

My transmission calls for 30wt engine oil rather than transmission fluid. The name plate on the transmission might even specify the oil type.

Unless you or a previous owner did a repower your engine should be a 2QM20 I think. I sold mine complete with manual. I have attached a picture of an old 3QM30 which had the same throttle cable attachment. You can see a lever and a mounting place for the cable just to the left of the injector pump. When I had the 2QM20 in my boat the throttle came over the top toward the steps. Then it looped down and back to that lever.

I also found that post from earlier in the week about zincs on the 2QM. It had a link to a German Yanmar site with manuals. Here is the 2QM15:(http://www.motoren.ath.cx/download.php?filename=yanmar/2qm15service.pdf ). It is very big(13M PDF), very detailed, and very complete EXCEPT for the throttle cable. Closest thing is on page 1-14. Here is the original link( http://www.motoren.ath.cx/menus/yanmar.html). It shows a 2QM20 which I could not open.

Yanmar stopped producing the QM series sometime around 1978. 1980-11983 Hunter 33's were supplied with 2GM20 non fresh water cooled engines.

I will try to remember to shoot pictures of the fuel cable attachment while I winterize the engine. My engine is a 3GM30F but that area is close enough so it won't matter. Now that I think about it I have the parts manual. If it has a decent breakout if that area I'll scan it. Won't happen till after the weekend.

Y Series
These horizontal models lay down in a low profile. The series was updated three times with the YSE being the earliest model, followed by the YSB and then the YSM. Either a 2:1 or 3:1 transmission. The models were sea-water cooled, singe cylinder, heavy duty. GM/HM Bored Up Series
Similar to the earlier standard GM/HM series, these engines provide upgraded horsepower and a 55 AMP alternator (1GM10 35 AMP). I ordered the Seloc manual yesterday but if anyone has a 2qm20h manual on pdf for any file format for that matter, please let me know. I was given a 2qm15 manual in pdf (thanks again) but the engine is somewhat different.

A 2GM engine is quite a bit different from a 2QM20H. It is a newer version. I do have a pdf of the 2GM manual and will send you a copy of the file.

the transmissions on the QM and GM series are different. The GM series Kanzaki KM2A uses 30wt.
The QM's should have a Kanzaki KBW ?? series. this is a knock off of a Hurth and uses ATF.
