Charlotte Bay and the end of Frederick Sound had good holding and an opportunity to hike some old logging roads.charlotte bay 2.jpg charlotte bay.jpg frederick sound.jpg If you like a little solitude this is the place for you. In the 14 days we were inside Nakwakto we saw just 3 other boats inside.

Places to provision and get fuel etc?
We've used Port McNeil and Port Hardy for major restocking. Smaller places have less at a greater cost. Fuel is pretty well available anywhere. There is NOTHING in Belize or Seymour unless you could beg at a logging camp. We left Port McNeil with a full tank of diesel and 8 jerry cans. Arrived in Port Hardy today with just 1/2 a tank and 8 empty jerry cans.

I am going to fill my tank before I head up your way. 189 gal. 1 gal per hour. 6-7 knots. I might make it back to Everett.

That's a good idea John. You know what our fuel costs up here. Your savings could pay for your whole trip! Unfortunately our main tank is only 35 U.S. gal. so jerry cans it is. What RPM do you cruise at that you use a whole gal. per hour?

Hmmm..I left Anacortes two wks ago with ~50 gal. Spent two wks wandering the Juans and Gulf Is. 85 - 90 degrees and never raised a sail. We coulda sailed in Stuart Passage but there were so many tree size logs floating around, we couldnt even steer a straight course. But I digress..I arrived back in Anacortes with a half tank. New Beta appears to burn .73 gal/hr. At about 6.3 kts..2100 rpm

Sounds about right. cruise rpm/max rpm divide by3 multiply by HP x .225 equals litres/hour. It's a pretty close formula, I always figured my old 4-108 used 2 litres / hr. but the formula says it's only 1.998 at 2000rpm.

I have a 47 HP Perkins that powered the boat about 6.5-7 at 2500-2700 RPM. That gives me another 300 RPM just in a case. The CampbellSailor is that efficient. My 1 gal per hour is a conservative guess. I was using .6 bit I found that a bit shy of reality. I suspect the 1 GAL is a bit overstated. I am narrowing in on the real number.
Your formula would yield 2.937 L per hour. Which would be .776 gal per hour. At that rate if I filled the tanks to the max. I could power for 1300 miles.

I think you're right John but maybe Will knows something we don't. Hey Will, what should I feed him for the best db gain?

It's just a "gut" feeling, but a high iron diet seems like it could make a difference. Of course, iron shields RF emissions, so maybe magnesium or electrolytes.

A 30# King would contain a lot of Omega-3 oil. Does that help?
