O'Day 27 On The Hard
Hi All,
I am new to the forum, I just purchased a 1978 O'Day 27 that has been dismast. I am looking for mast and boom lengths as well as any information on shroud a stay lengths and sizes. Any pictures would also be helpful. I have checked with Rudy at DR marine and also with Rig-Rite neither had the information. Any information would be appreciated.

They have one for the 272 but not the 27, totally different boat. Thanks for the lead!

Sailboatdata.com has enough, I think, that a rigger could figure the exact measurements. Have a look.

I have a marine used parts yard looking for the parts for me if I even had pictures or knew of something that would identify it as the proper mast, possibly masthead ??

You know the masthead is 38 1/2 feet above the water and the boom is 9 1/2 feet. Section of the mast would be about the same as a Catalina 27. Maybe a word to Kenyon or a mast supplier in your area!? Someone else has lost a mast at some point so the specs should be out there. The rigging on the spec. sheet looks pretty standard for that size of boat.

It looks like the freeboard and cabin height are approximately 5 feet so I am estimating about 33 1/2 feet for the mast, along with the estimated forestay length of 36.89 feet from sailboatdata.com they should be able to find the right one. The yard has a boom that they know came off of a 27 so that is a plus. Hopefully I can piece this thing together properly. Thanks for your help.

Perhaps this link will help. http://www.iheartodays.com/model_oday_27.html and https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/oday-27

Note that the mast appears in the Sailboat Data image to be "deck stepped". This means that the "I" length of 35 feet would be approximately the mast length.

Then there is this reference to a "tall rig" https://www.gjenvick.com/BangorPunt...1977/02-ODay27-WinningCombinationOfIdeas.html where the writer identifies the rig as 38.6". It would appear in reality, unless you want to race the boat to spec in match racing that a mast some where between 35 and 38.5 feet would serve as a proper rig for a cruising boat.

Thank everyone for their help. I was able to source what I believe is the proper mast it is 33'-3". This makes sense as the Rig-Rite #8 says that one of the stock lengths is 33' for the extrusion and 3" for the masthead. I think the only thing I am missing is the length of the spreaders.
