Jumping into the unknown soon. I need to replace my leaking macerater pump with a new one. Any insight? I guess that white coupling with the red valve unscrews from the macerater correct? This should be fun

Try to flush the system with fresh water if you can. Plug the hole that goes to the bilge. Wear gloves - latex or other if you are allergic to latex. Use channel pliers to wiggle hose loose. To re-attach hose heat the end of the hose in hot water - you have to move quickly as the hose cools off fast.

Don't see any hose clamps, so could either be screwed onto the black flange that seems with the two screws screwed onto the pump, or that piece is clamped to the pump and glued to the valve. Undo the hose clamps first and take the valve out with the pump, then investigate. For a new pump, buy a Shurflo or Johnson, not Jabsco. They all look alike but some are better than others.

You are going to need more than that hanging pine freshener.

BE SURE TO CLOSE THE THRU HULL FITTING FOR THE PUMP DISCHARGE HOSE.

The valve could be glued onto the pump.

I would first run fresh water in and suck all that I could out as you are likely to have affluent in the lines. I wonder if you could open the discharge line and the white valve to suction water through the pump and lines so to flush the lines. I would think even if you have the lines closed it is likely you will have stinky water in both hoses flushing them might help the gag reflex.

Next I would disconnect the hoses and plug them to get the pump and the valve off the so you can address the valve and pump separation. I would guess that they put some sort of sealant on the valve pump connection if not glue.

Since it appears that the pump has a bit of corrosion I would think it will be necessary to clean/lube/and maybe replace the valve.

Have not done this repair but have given it some thought in my boat. I'm happy there are no leaks in my hoses.

A quick look at pumps and their function would lead me to explore the SeaLand T-Series Sanipump Discharge and Macerator Pump. About 2 times the cost of a Jabasco but what looks like, to me, a one time install (at least for my boat lifetime) compared to a replace every so many years pump.
But then some folks do not mind getting down and dirty.

John

Already bought the matching Jabsco, but if this one doesn’t last more than 5 years, I’ll get a different kind. There are hose clamps on the other side of the white valve. And there are threads on the new pump where the white valve is attached so apparently it screws in. I hope to hell they didn’t put glue on the threads. I’m not one that doesn’t mind getting dirty with black water.

Closed

Oh please no. There are threads.

Yes plan is to flus very well and I may be possible to open the thru hull and the valve and suck water threw when I pump out. I’ll surely try it.

Next I would disconnect the hoses and plug them to get the pump and the valve off the so you can address the valve and pump separation. I would guess that they put some sort of sealant on the valve pump connection if not glue.
Yes, I plan to pull out the pump with the white valve attached. Clean it out with water and figure out how to separate them. Please no glue.

Since it appears that the pump has a bit of corrosion I would think it will be necessary to clean/lube/and maybe replace the valve.
Yes the pump is original (10 years old) and is rusting and minor corrosion it’s leaking out of the bottom of the pump somewhere.

Have not done this repair but have given it some thought in my boat. I'm happy there are no leaks in my hoses.[/QUOTE]

I’m getting ready to do som long time cruising so it’s a must do unfortunately

RW. I wish you all the best on this task.
Let us know how it goes and if there were any discoveries along the way.

Where will you be starting your long journey cruising? Are there an special ports of call?

Might be an obvious item but have a bucket or a pan or whatever you can fit under there to put the hose ends in to catch any runoff when you detach them. And have rags you won't mind disposing.

I replaced mine a few years ago I was lucky and was able to remove the 4 long screws that hold the housing for the red handle valve that screws on to with out trying to unthread the valve. Leaving that part of the pump in place. The rest of the job was easy after removing the 1 inch discharge hose going into the thru hull valve. There was very little leakage as the pump is above the tank level. Buying the same Jabsco it was just a matter of plug and play. I replaced the 4 long screws as well with new ones.

Well looking at those hoses, I would undo the other end of both hoses and remove macerater along with hoses if I could. Then reassemble with new actual waste hoses and install

I will

Delaware now, then down the Chesapeake and then outside. May stop in Hilton Head and then on to Ft Pierce and put her in a slip for about a month, then on to the Northern Bahamas for the winter

Very good info thanks. I did notice that the replacement pump, (original part no longer made) has the discharge angled north instead of east like the current pump discharge. I’m wondering if that can be changed and if not, once the 1” discharge hose is reattached, will it interfere with the floor panel sitting back flush.

Yes I’m thinking it may be easier to just replace the hose with a new one. I generally destroy a 10 year old hose getting them off

Slater, I don't know how much room you have in that locker? My galley sink thruhull is under a shelf, making it a slight task to turn on/off. I placed a light line from the on/off handle to "pull it for on" so I can at least turn it on without lifting the shelf out. Might help with your two "pickups"?
