I got mine at JoAnn Fabrics. Nothing spectacular but much more firm than the 20+ year old stuff I took out. Cut it with an electric turkey carving knife.

All the interior and exterior foam for both boats, most all has been replaced, has come from the Foam Factory. They have two separate internet sites and both have a wide selection of foam to choose from. One....

http://www.thefoamfactory.com/

.... has free shipping over $75.00 and will cut to size.

The other....

http://www.foamdistributing.com/

.... only sells in different size sheets and free shipping is for a $100 or more order and they don't cut to size. I now order almost all the foam from this site since the pricing is so much less, but the other site has better pricing than you will find locally for similar foam. It is super easy to cut with an electric knife so I see no need to get 'cut to size' foam.

We use their Lux High Quality Foam for all the interior foam....

http://www.foamdistributing.com/LHQ/lux-high-quality-foam.html

It is very firm and....

http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner/endeavour-canvas/canvas-15.html

.... I like it since we can use a 3" thickness for the berths on the boats and can kneel on it and your knee doesn't bottom out. The thinner the foam the more headroom in the V-Berth.

For exterior foam we have used their DryFast Foam.

http://www.foamdistributing.com/D/dryfast-foam.html

It dries extremely fast if you use it with a fabric....

... like Sailrite's Phifertex Plus .....

http://www.sailrite.com/Popular-Collection/Phifertex-Plus/type/Products?keywords=Phifertex

Any rain or dew runs right through the fabric and foam and...

... the cushions dry very fast. More on it here.......

The site states that they will now offer cutting services. That may be a good thing. I need to replace all my cushions.

If it costs much more for them to cut, a $13 electric carving knife is very easy to use,

Is that cutting just to a rough size, or do they cut to your patterns?

+1 on the foam factory. We cut it ourselves. Used 2" + 2" memory foam on top for the v berth. Very comfortable!

Try just adding a one inch piece of Styrofoam on the bottom the other foam. I used the insulation from Home Depot comes in 4 X 8 foot sheets. Just slide it in the cover.

Timebandit - do you mean the hard insulation foam? Is that comfortable?

The white Styrofoam like the cheap ice chests are made of. It has some give to it but is way softer than fiberglass. It will brake down after a while if you kneel on it a lot. If you have a cheap ice chest just cut it apart and try just the foam to sit on.

We use the same "Lux HQ" foam @Sumner mentioned. Good stuff, very firm. I like it just fine as is, but my wife wants to try some softer foam on top of it for her berth. She's a girl, though. ;)

And +1 for the electric knife. If you buy it just for this project and then throw it away, it will still be worth it.

Mine is simply a $40 full size memory foam topper. it's 1.5" mem foam and 2.5" open cell.

With it's own linens, it makes a very comfy bed that is nice and firm, but still has lots of give.
