Hunter 260 Forestay Tension with Furler

I have a 2002 Hunter 260, and I have sailed it for one season. Since it sits on a single lake all season, I have really only rigged it myself once. The previous owner did take the time, however, to show me how to rig it and that was very helpful. It has a roller furling jib, which I quite...

What happens when your forestay fails

The forestay on my 36 failed while I was sailing last week. I was on a beam reach with about 12 knots of wind and relatively calm waters. The jib furler came off the bow and started to bang on the side of the boat. I put on the engine and furled up the main sail so that I can deal with the loose...

    Beneteau Solent stay

Hi I’m currently working on a Solent stay. And I need a strong base for the chainplate. I could reinforce it directly to the hull, but the easy way is to bolt it thru the base at the anchor windlass bedding. But is this part strong enough for this upward tension? As seen on the picture the...

    P-18 Forestay shackle recommendation needed

Hello, I need to purchase a shackle to connect the turnbuckle to the forestay chainplate on my 1985 Precision 18. Any recommendations are appreciated. The mounting point hole on the chainplate isn't that large and it needs to be simple to lock in during mast raising. Thank you! Dan

They are rated to about 600 pounds. Not sure if the forestay is bent, or if the mast isn't all the...

How much play in forestay linkage with Johnson Lever?

I have a Johnson Lever under the forestay. Followed after Sumner's example somewhat. I have the original forestay, not upgraded to thicker wire. So the question I have, somewhat directed toward Sumner, but also open to anyone else to whom this applies, is how much "twisty" play is there in the...
