So.....Took delivery of our 1989 Beneteau First 35s5 two weeks ago.
Weekend before last, replaced the toilet.
Last weekend had to replace the head wye valve and started chasing down the corrosion and coolant leak. Pulled the heat exchanger (and all the tubing going to it), the heat exchanger is crumbling, corroded, leaking rock that is affecting the other engine components (starter, elbow, head, block, etc.).
Volvo wants $1900 for a new heat exchanger.
Anyone know of an aftermarket source that is a little more affordable?

Thanks,

Mike

I had the same issue with my 2003T oil cooler. I had a mechanic plumb in a generic one, mounted in the engine compartment. Much easier to get to (not too bad on the heat exchanger but the oil cooler is a real pain), will be easy to replace when that happens, and a fraction of the cost of the replacement part (oil cooler was cheap, and labor way less than the $1500 I could find the oil cooler for). That approach may work for you, too.

I bought the replacement heat exchanger ($2,500. with seals, gaskets, etc.) and installed it myself, three days. Done now, runs cool as a cucumber and no leaks!
I don't know how to service/maintain it. There is no inner tube set to pull out.
